It’s hard to explain our approach without a self-referential nod to our name and mission: Get It Right – shortened to GIR. Sounds like “gear” not “grrrr”, but “grrr” is exactly what we were feeling with the standard, same old kitchen tools. So we decided to fix that.
In 2012
Where it all started
For Samantha Rose, the idea for GIR started with a simple spatula…or more accurately, with her drawer full of spatulas. For a tool that’s so simple yet so important to any cook’s toolkit, she felt let down by every model she tried. She knew that to get it right, she would have to design her own. A 2012 Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign helped her pursue the GIR mission and bring our original spatula to life.
So what is it about our spatula that gets it right? We started with all that was wrong with that drawerful of spatulas. Then we stripped it all away and started from scratch. No more wooden handles that burned on the edge of the pan, ruining nonstick pans or spatulas warped in the dishwasher. No more ruining nonstick pans. Our spatula solves every one of those problems. Made from a single piece of silicone, it’s heat resistant to 425°F, with weight and balance that make it easy to whip up any meal in the kitchen.
Rave reviews from home cooks and professional chefs told us we got it right and fueled our passion to keep going. We returned to Kickstarter with new product designs and our community was right there cheering us on. Tongs, mashers, peelers – all got important improvements. And there’s no end in sight. Like all of our products, our newest tools redefine what it means to “get it right” in the kitchen.
