Which Peeler is Right for You?

Posted by GIR: Get It Right on

Our commitment to getting it right really shines through our peelers. So much so, we went on a mission to get it right in four different ways! But with so many options, how do you know which peeler is right for you? Lucky for you, we like to consider ourselves a party of peeler experts! The quick, TLDR answer is, it really depends on what you’re peeling. Ultimately picking the right peeler comes down to three things: handle style, blade shape, and personal preference. Regardless of the task at hand, we’ve got you covered. Now let's dive into the world of peelers, shall we?

Handle Styles

Your options for handle style are between an I-Handle and Y-Handle.

Our I-handle styles are ideal for round foods, where maneuverability is key. They also come in extremely handy for certain foods that come in larger blocks. We pull out the I-handle for foods like:

  • Apples
  • Pears
  • Tomatoes
  • Blocks of chocolate
  • Blocks of hard cheese (Parmesan, Pecorino, Manchego etc.)

Our Y-Handle style is designed for longer foods. It's no surprise that they really standout when we're making julienne vegetables. They're absolutely perfect for forging long, elegant strips out of whatever you're peeling, we endearingly call this our "dinner party peeler." We love to use this handle on foods like:

  • Eggplant
  • Zucchini
  • Butternut squash
  • Carrots
  • Potatoes/Yams

Blade Shape

Now to the fun stuff! We've got three different blade styles to walk through.

Our flat blades are so sharp, they're almost witty; designed to give a perfect peel with maximum efficiency. Not only perfect for easy-to-peel foods, this blade is also the first we run to when we're adding a special garnish to top off a salad or dessert. We like to pair this blade with foods like:

  • Apples
  • Potatoes/Yams
  • Hard cheese
  • Chocolate
  • Carrots

Our serrated blade is the best for thin skinned fruits, and will be your best friend when dealing with foods like:

  • Tomatoes
  • Kiwis
  • Mangos

Our julienne blade is perfect for creating long, thin strips of vegetables. And as mentioned earlier when talking about the Y-Handle, this blade really takes center stage when creating julienne vegetables. Looking to make zoodles on the fly? This blade will help you get it right. We use this blade on:

  • Zucchini
  • Eggplant
  • Carrots
  • Potatoes
  • Bell Peppers

Behind the Design

We designed our peelers with sharp steel blades that glide fast and clean, shaving thin peels without digging too deep. All of our peelers come with twin swivel blades - allowing for a perfect peel from either direction. We also included a  1” gap between the blade and the bridge prevents clogging for a smooth peeling experience and minimal food waste.

What's our favorite feature? We're so glad you asked! We've included integrated potato-eye removers, primed to tackle those hard-to-reach spots. You can find these on the back of the I-handle and both sides of the Y-handle peeler - strategically placed for extra leverage and ambidextrous use!

Our flat, serrated, and julienne blades match up to different veggies and applications. Simply put: whatever you need, we've got you covered!
